Lisa’s Pregnancy–13 Weeks

13 weeks

I definitely feel like my belly is growing more and more each week! Rinaldo has noticed too. When I’ve been getting ready for bed these last few nights, he’s been saying “Lisa you’re looking pregnant!” I just laugh and tell him, if you think this is looking pregnant then you’re in for a big surprise! :-) I’m looking forward to my belly growing bigger, but for now my mini bump is fun!

Some people say the second trimester starts at Week 12, others at Week 13, and I’ve even read that it begins at Week 14. I’m going with the middle number , Week 13, and will officially say I’m in the second trimester! Bring on the belly! Smile

Can you believe she’s forming vocal cords and teeth?!

And even though she’s still teeny, she already has fingerprints.


Her intestines are moving from the umbilical cord to their more

permanent place, in her tummy.




How I’m Changing

Total weight gain: –1lb. I had a doctor appointment this morning and I’ve lost a pound but he said that’s normal and not to worry cause I’ll be gaining steadily in no time.
Maternity clothes? Clothes still fitting good, but I want to purchase a belly band because I think I’ll need it soon!
Stretch marks? None.
Sleep: Pretty good for the most part. I tossed and turned till after 3am Saturday night, but slept really good last night! 
Best moment this week: Hear the heartbeat this morning!! So exciting!
Miss Anything? Still miss feeling less tired and being able to do more after work.
Movement: Nothing yet, but I cannot wait.
Food cravings: No unusual cravings yet.
Anything making you queasy or sick: I don’t think anything makes me queasy anymore. I haven’t tried salmon yet, but I think I’d be able to eat it.
Gender: 3 more weeks till we find out with our 3d ultrasound, hopefully!
Symptoms: Backaches every day…
Belly Button in or out? In.
Wedding rings on or off? On.
Happy or Moody most of the time: HAPPY!
Looking forward to: Spending the night downtown this Saturday! We love mini getaways every so often.

How I’m Feeling

Everything has been the same with feeling tired everyday, but I’ve also been experiencing lots of back pain in addition. Sad smile

I’ve had issues with my mid-upper back since my early teens, but it only bothered me occasionally and only when I did too much physical work like vacuum & mop the entire house. Also, it wouldn’t last more than an hour at a time.

Lately, I’ve been experiencing pain while doing nothing, even while just lying down. It lasts the entire day off an on. I’ve been seeing a chiropractor since December and am hoping that it will go away soon. I started using a heating pad this past weekend and it has been helping.


Yesterday’s Eats


I made these coconut flour protein pancakes for breakfast yesterday.

Crazy twin story- Maria and I both made this EXACT same recipe for breakfast. We both happened to be craving pancakes and googled coconut flour pancakes and we chose to use the same recipe! We got a kick out of that.



Part of my lunch- Romaine, purple onions, grape tomatoes & walnuts topped with olive oil and balsamic.



SuberBowl Eats- Kale Chips, Salad, Rice and a Chicken Tamale.

Our family watched the SuperBowl at our brother Carmine’s house last night. Like always, I’m never really interested in the game and just talked and hung out with the woman of the family. It was fun! We off course watched Madonna during the halftime show and caught a few funny commercials.

Maria made a huge bowl of kale chips for the party and they were a hit! Everyone loved them and they were gone by the end of the night!

    How exciting for you and Rinaldo!
    That’s so funny that you and Maria made the same pancakes…great minds think alike (and being twins probably helps!).
    I watched the super bowl (sort of—I mean, it was on). We were going to get together with friends, but ended up watching/hanging out at home. Joe had to work super early today, so we kept it low key, and that was just fine with us! (although, if I had a big family, I think watching with them would be at the top of my list)

      I know, when we shared what we both had for breakfast with each other we couldn’t help but laugh and be a little freaked out!
      Sounds like you had a good SuperBowl night! If I didn’t have a big family I wouldn’t done the exact same thing! ;)

    Haha that twin thing is just so funny. I love Comfy Belly’s recipes, and I usually make my g-f pancakes with almond flour so I will have to give her coconut flour ones a go! 

    My sister is due in July so I think she’s around 16 weeks right now and only just starting to show!

    Btw, I finally got around to updating my blogroll and am super thrilled to have you guys on it!

    The belly band is good both now and for after the baby is born, before your regular pants fit again. It’s also useful if you choose to nurse; you won’t have to worry about exposing your midriff if you aren’t wearing a nursing tank (which I highly recommend if you nurse… I wore one everyday when my son was born).
    I had lower back pain with my first pregnancy in the first trimester and am starting to have the same pain with this pregnancy (I’m 12 weeks on Wednesday). It went away during the second trimester but came back the last few weeks. I hope yours eases up for you. I’m jealous you can eat again… morning sickness has been torture for me and most of my favorite foods still make me sick.

      Thanks so much for all the tips! I didn’t even think about how the belly band could be helpful after the birth! I do plan to nurse so I will have to remember your tips! I hope you feel better soon because morning sickness is no fun!!

    My pregnancies were pretty back-pain free until the end, so I can’t complain.

    I have just unsweetened shredded coconut, think I can put it in the food processor to make coconut flour?

    I agree with Krystal about the Bella Band, it’s a must have for me.  Also, I heard plank exercises were bad during pregnancy by some people, heard it was okay from others, this last pregnancy I thought I’d try it and listen to my body and heart for any warnings to stop.  Everything went fine, I did 3 minutes of center plank exercises 3x a week, even the day after I delivered – I think for me it totally helped strengthen my uterus, I had the easiest delivery for this baby of all my 8 kids.   :)
